Yanik's Hot Sheet December 2005
December 17, 2005
Welcome to the next every once-in-awhile “Hot Sheet” and the last one for ‘05.
It’s crazy how fast the year has gone. I sure hope you’ve hit all your goals for the year and you’ll be working on an even better 2006.
I’m writing this about 30,000 feet up between Denver and Washington, DC. I’m on the way home from a quick ski trip and meeting with my buddy Jeff Walker in Vail, CO.
What a blast! We skied for 2+ days and got some of the best snow I’ve ever seen. I was totally loving it since I normally ski on the East Coast and it doesn’t even come close. In fact, this morning we hit the slopes at 8:30 AM since we both had to get out of there semi-early and it was incredible. We were in about 8-12 inches of fresh powder on some runs and we got to make first tracks in the snow. I’ve never skied in powder before and it was wild.
Now it wasn’t all fun & games because we squeezed in some business during the couple days in Vail. In fact, Jeff helped me brainstorm a cool product launch for an info product completely unrelated to Internet marketing. You’ll probably hear about it at some point as a case study.
You might remember seeing Jeff’s name around online a lot lately with his “Product Launch Formula”. I highly recommend it because of the great results Jeff has helped me achieve (over $193k in 24 hrs). So I know this stuff works like crazy. If you want to launch a product, re-launch an existing one or even want to promote something as an affiliate - check it out http://www.SixinSeven.com/productlaunch.html
Also a quick update. A lot of people have emailed and asked how little Zak is doing. He’s pretty awesome. He just had his 4 month doctors visit and weighed in at 13 lb 6 oz. I’ve got some new pics up you can take a look at here – www.zaksilver.com/gallery/ (Notice the spelling of the domain. You might remember the argument over Zak or Zack for his nickname. Well Missy and I still haven’t solved it so we’re each going to write his name the way we want to until he can decide.) ;)
Speaking of Missy AKA my editor…she’s still on maternity leave (possibly a full-time strike) so if you catch any typos or errors in here I put them in here on purpose so you guys have something to look for ;)

Alright, let’s get down to business with our final Hot Sheet of the year…
What's Yanik's Hot Sheet, you ask?
Good question.
You see, I spend tons of money buying new information (about $50,000.00 last year), checking out new products, attending seminars, reviewing material people send, reading a bunch of books and newsletters, etc. etc. So I've decided to share with you what's new, what's hot and what's going on inside this periodic newsletter.
You'll find this filled with resources, tips, and stuff I recommend. You'll only hear from me when I've got some cool stuff to share (unless you tell me to bug off by clicking the link at the bottom). :)

Hot Sheeter #1: Underground Online Seminar II Early Bird Discount Ends Dec 31 (or sooner) http://www.undergroundonlineseminar.com ---------------------------------------
We’re coming down to the wire here!
You’ve got until December 31st (or until the final 16 seats are sold) to grab your spot case you haven't signed up yet for the upcoming Underground Online Marketing Seminar II.
Last April I hosted the first ever "Underground Online Seminar" and it was totally SOLD-OUT 5 weeks before the event took place. (As a comparison most seminars are still trying to fill seats up until the very day of the event.)
From all the great feedback - I'm doing it again...
This time I'm bringing an *ALL-NEW* group of real-world Underground Internet successes breaking their code of silence. (I'm talking about 6-figure, 7- figure and even 8-figure Internet earners to step forward.) These are definitely not the same usual suspects you see at other seminar.
If you get before we close the doors on the special Early-Bird pricing you’ll lock in the biggest discount going (you save $500.00) and you’ll get exclusive special bonuses reserved just for Early-Bird attendees. In fact, some of the best ones are 2 chances at winning the brand new 2006 Mini Cooper and access to a closed-door private VIP networking Espionage ‘whodunit’ dinner on the first evening.
Remember it only takes one good idea to make this worth it for you. Don't you think from a group of people selling $94M online, all the incredible attendees and VIP guests you might pick up one or two new ideas?
My Internet buddies are coming there to actually learn and NOT socialize in the back-of-the-room like at typical seminars. And you can bet I'll be taking tons of notes too.
Hope to see you there -
http://www.UndergroundOnlineSeminar.com
And one more thing – if you need one more inducement I’m going to doing a special teleseminar on the 4 biggest online trends for 2006 you can profit from only for attendees signed up before December 31 (or whenever the final seats are taken). Last year I had to shut down the Early-Bird page before the deadline because all the seats were sold – that could happen again this time.

Double-sized Feature Article
Hot Sheeter #2: “How 2 Magic Words Can Almost Guarantee Your Customers Will Be Practically Begging You For More”
By Yanik Silver
---------------------------------------
Back in 2001 I almost stumbled onto this secret…
You see, that was when I first released a “viral” electronic book (ebook) that was meant to be passed around on the Web. That part worked great. In fact, I just went to Google and typed in the name of the ebook “Million Dollar Emails” in quotes and it still came up with 72,200 references 4+ years later. Now that’s 72,200 websites that are selling, giving away or mentioning my ebook - so I can only imagine how many countless copies are circulating on the web.
But this isn’t the point. The point is the 2 magic words, right?
I can almost hear you screaming, “C’mon Yanik – give me those 2 words already Buddy!”
I promise I will but not quite yet…
Let’s fast forward a few years to 2003 and I’ve pretty much forgotten about my little eBook adventure and the fact it included the “2 magic words” on the cover (oops there’s a hint). You see, I was considering the idea of coming clean about a hidden way to literally "steal" an almost endless source of content (on practically any subject you could imagine). That’s when I decided to go ahead and hold a 2-hour call to spill the beans about how I’d been able tap into this mountain of public domain information for years and years. Plus, I asked a legal expert and 2 other guests, who have had success with public domain, to be part of this call. (That’s the www.PublicDomainRiches.com product)
After setting up the details, I made a quick announcement to my subscribers and the response was crazy. I thought I’d need maybe 150-200 phones lines but I sold 850+ seats to this teleconference call @ $49/spot or $97 (if they wanted an audio CD sent to them). For about 2+ hours of work I made a tidy $47,926.00 but more importantly, I knew this had hit a major hot button.
That’s why, after the call I simply asked the 800+ attendees one question – “What is the one lingering question you still have about finding, using and profiting from public domain?”
Okay nothing fancy but the responses and answers I got gave me the ideas for a follow-up product. They told me there needed to be a much more comprehensive and advanced program that took people step-by-step through the process – starting with finding and selecting public domain works to exactly how to profit from them. I decided to hold a private “eclass” for 15 people in which I delivered lessons and homework assignments via email for 8 weeks to attendees. (This eclass sold-out 5 separate times until I stopped offering it as a live course and turned it into a home-study course at www.PublicDomainRiches.com/leap/.)
Now on top of the requests for more advanced help, the responses we got from the survey also centered around “How can I be sure a work is really copyright-free?” and “How can I find a good market or niche to sell information to?”
After reading those questions – I decided the next thing I’d offer in the “Public Domain Riches” family would be something I named “Public Domain Goldmine (tm)”. This product was a “fish”. Huh? You’ve certainly heard the expression about “Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. But teach him fish and you feed him for life.” Well, that’s B.S. People today are busier than ever and they don’t want to learn “how to fish”. They’d rather have their fish grilled and served them on their plate ready to eat with a little mango chutney on the side.
Public Domain Goldmine (tm) is 35 public domain works in 35 different niches handed to the customer with each work having their copyright cleared by an attorney and actually scanned in (so people can edit and manipulate the text). Plus it includes spreadsheets of search engine keyword research, market analysis, competitors, back-end products to sell, possible joint venture partners and more. Like I said – this really is the “fish” with everything done for them.
Now I had a really big feeling this would take off and it did!
We brought in $71,624.00 in less than 48 hours and we sold out all 250 packages available in 9 days flat!
And we went on to sell out every other Public Domain Goldmine (tm) package that’s been released since this first one. In fact, the longest one that’s been on the market so far has been 13 days.
How? A big part is using those 2 magic words I’ve been teasing you with…
Okay ready to hear them? Drum roll please…..
….They are: “Volume I”.
That’s it. I know it seems almost too simple but if people like your “Volume I” – guess what they’ll want? Of course, Volume II, III, IV, etc. Side Note: There may be a few remaining sets of Goldmine 7 remaining at this point at www.PublicDomainGoldmine.com/vol7
Really, this has tons of applications if you give it some thought. Here’s a quick example from Hollywood, think about Quentin Tarantino’s recent film “Kill Bill”. Quentin shrewdly set himself up a built-in audience for the sequel because he named the first film “Kill Bill: Volume I”. Hey, I went to go see “Kill Bill: Volume 1” and then afterwards I had to see complete the story by going back to the theater and plunking down my money again for “Kill Bill: Volume II”.
By automatically setting up “sequels” you can get your customers practically begging you for more and more and more.

Hot Sheeter #4: Q & A Wrap-up for 2005
------------------------------------------------- I’ve got some remaining questions that have accumulated here so I’m going to try to knock out the best ones for you guys in this issue.
Q. Thank you for all of the information that you have
provided. I recently purchased membership and I am pleased. Due to time factor,
I haven't thoroughly reviewed all the information that you've provided, which
is a lot. - Pauline G., Founder "Mama Gax & Company" A. Pauline – good question. Yep, there are some unscrupulous people out there who want to defraud you – but not nearly as many as you might expect. I recently saw a very telling experiment done and people had every opportunity to cheat and steal without being caught – but nearly 85% didn’t. Okay but what about the small % that do? If you contact your merchant account they usually have up to date information on ways to protect online fraud. Depending on your type of business – the holidays are an increased risk. I can’t give away all the things we’ve done to stop this because I don’t want to tip my hat to the ‘bad guys’. However, let me share a couple things that are red-flags.
For
orders that seem a little strange don’t hesitate to give the customer a call.
That quick 1-minute exercise might save you a lot of grief later on. **
Q. It is
a pleasure to finally write to you - I'm looking forward to your next I have a
question: I have a couple of books which fall into the category of
A. Well Carl – pretty interesting there’s another Yanik out there ;)
To find out if there is a demand for a public domain work you might consider promoting, as an affiliate, something similar. You can join Amazon’s affiliate program or look for something really specific to what the public domain work is on. Then drive a little traffic and see if anyone bites. If so, you know it’s worth some effort on your part to scan the public domain work, write the sales letter for it, etc. I actually cover this process in-depth with screen capture videos inside this course – http://www.publicdomainriches.com/leap/
** Q. Yanik, I have never listened to a tape more than twice. Not even Bing Crosby! What can you get from an informational tape on the third go round that is not apparent on the first or second? - Ronald
A. Tons & Tons. Off the top of my head – I remember listening to a few people over and over again. Earl Nightingale, Dan Kennedy, Jay Abraham & Ted Nicholas dozens of times when I was first getting started with direct marketing. A lot of times when you listen to a certain idea – your mind starts going off on tangents and racing around. In fact, you miss a lot of what is being said immediately following that brainstorm. Or you’re in a different place in your business life or personal life. Or sometimes you could have listened to something 8 times previously but because you are now looking for a specific solution – you only hear it now. Or another reason is because our heads are like buckets with a small hole in it. And to really master a subject you need to keep going back to it over and over again to stay ahead of the leak in the bottom. ;)
For some of my favorite books and audios I’ve listened to over and over again check out www.InstantSalesLetters.com/resources.html
**
Q. How on
earth do you stay so motivated?!!? I have a ton of ideas, and an on
A. Tammy – don’t worry there’s certainly hope for you. First things first, you have to realize most “overnight successes” are 3-7 years in the making. That’s the same for me. I started seriously studying direct marketing in 1997. By 2000 I was doing about $150k/year with my info business and it’s steadily grown since then. Be kind to yourself and realize it’s a process. Of course, there are lots of shortcuts with people’s courses, etc – but that’s also a big danger. I suggest the following.
1. Study the direct marketing principles that form the foundation of Internet Marketing. That means learning about what worked for successful mail order and direct marketers. Get books from Ogilvy, Caples, Hopkins, Sackheim, etc. (all listed on that other resources link I gave Ronald).
2. Pick one Internet business model and one role-model to follow. Decide which model fits your personality, lifestyle, etc. Then stop paying attention (in the short term) to the others. Go full bore and follow every single thing that this other person tells you do (typically via a home study course or sometimes one-on-one). Then (and only then) after you have got one income stream up and going move on to something else. The big
thing I see stopping a lot of people is clarity and focus. They get
side-tracked by the next hottest thing online. ** Q. I have
been wondering...
A. Phew! This is a whopper but I don’t mind covering it. Let’s tackle each of these tough questions in order –
1. If you’re selling your ebook for $20 you can make money depending on which marketplace you go after and also how much traffic you can get cheaply. It all comes down to economics. I have several $14.95 ebooks (in all different niches) and they bring in between $150 - $800+/month consistently. The smarter question though is thinking about how you can use that $20 ebook as a “front-end” product and then sell more expensive “back-end” products to those buyers. That’s exactly what one of our presenters at the Underground II does. He started in 2004 selling a dating ebook for $29 which then leads to a $497-$697 back-end course.
2. How can you sell with so many people competing against you? That’s a double-edged sword. The marketplaces that have the most competition mean lots and lots of people are buying. Consider your own interests. Perhaps you love to garden. Well, I’m sure you don’t have only 1 gardening book/magazine on your shelf. You probably have loads of them and you’ve bought them from all different types of people. Personally, for me I have hundreds and hundreds of marketing/advertising books and I keep buying them from all kinds of different experts. Same thing goes here – you shouldn’t be scared off by the competition. Now with that said, if you are selling the exact same thing as competitors (perhaps via resell rights) then you’ve got rough sledding. You need to have an unique angle or hook in order to capture market share.
3. Relying on search engine rankings as your business income stream is incredibly stupid. It’s like building a house on top of quicksand. Just like you said – people lost their businesses when Google had a change. Very true. And that’s because you don’t control Google. You have no say whether or not you remain on top of the search engine rankings. I’m not saying don’t do SEO but you have to realize it’s a forever changing landscape.
4. And finally about the Internet gurus trying to sell you their courses, etc. Yep, there’s no shortage of them out there. I’ll give you my criteria for purchasing a resource (and I invest $40k+ of my own money each year in my education):
- Did they actually “do” the thing they are talking about? - Will I (or someone on my team) be able to implement this quickly into my existing business? - Is the return on investment easy to achieve? - Will this person support me in any way? - Am I buying this because I need it now or because they want to sell it to me now? - Do they have a proven track record of delivering results? - Do I believe them? (gut feeling usually) - Do they take American Express ;)
That wraps up Q & A time. If you have questions – you can head over to www.surefiremarketing.com/support and you might be selected for inclusion in a future newsletter.
-------------------------------------------------
Hot Sheeter #5: Books, Tools & Resources You Need to Check Out
-------------------------------------------------
Here are the latest books I’ve read that are worth mentioning….
“Freakonomics” by Steven D. Levitt, Stephen J. Dubner - This is kinda an interesting read which covers all sorts of unusual statistics that affect society like the fact it’s more dangerous to send your kid over to a house with a swimming pool than one with a gun inside. Or find out why crime really went down in the 90’s according the authors.
--
I just had the privilege of getting Dan Kennedy’s newest books as galleys before they hit the bookshelves. He’s coming out with 4 books at the same time. (Damn, this does guy ever sleep?) :)
They are 1) The Ultimate Sales Letter 2) The Ultimate Marketing Plan - both revised 3) Direct Marketing for non-direct markers and 4) NO BS Wealth Attraction for Entreprenuers. #4 is my favorite book of the bunch.
I am a huge DK fan because he’s the mentor that has really had the most profound affect on my business life. I strongly suggest picking up his newest books (in which I’m featured in 2 of them) when they come out. Actually Dan and I will be doing a teleseminar for buyers that I’ll tell you about soon. For now since those books aren’t available – you’d be crazy to not be signed up his newsletter. In fact, you can get a free 3- month trial here – http://www.dk3monthspecial.com/trial/
--
“The Seven-Day Weekend” by Ricardo Semler – If you want to challenge your thinking about how businesses should be run - then get this book. It’s written by the CEO of Semco, Inc from Brazil that Semler describes as “…a company with $212 million in annual revenue and ‘no official structure… no organizational chart… no business plan or company strategy". It’s pretty far outside the box and from first glance would seem to create complete anarchy in an organization but that hasn’t stopped Semco’s meteoric rise in revenues.
--
And finally a couple people have asked if I ever read fiction. Not as much as I’d like to. Fiction is great to get the creativity going and also for helping you develop stories in your copywriting. I’ve just polished off the final 2 “Jason Bourne” books (much better than the movies). A political thriller called “The Game” and a cool book called “The Time Traveler’s Wife” recommenced to me by Fred Gleeck
**

If you've got an offline business and need to get up and going online OR if you're ready to make more from your online ventures - you've still got time.
However I must warn you that window of opportunity is closing pretty damn quickly!
You see, the "Big Boys" with deep pockets are waking up to incredible power of the Internet. And they've got their sights set on dominating the online marketplace and muscling you out of the action.
I've teamed up with top Direct Marketing expert and my good friend Bill Glazer to create a program that many people have been asking for. It's designed to give you a realistic way to profit from simple online methods to attract new customers & generate more sales...no matter what business you're in.
It's called "The NO B.S. Online Tele-Coaching Program" http://www.NoBSInternetSuccess.com
(Good news - there are a handful of charter subscriptions left!)
The next call is December 27th with Jim Edwards & Rick Raddatz on using multi-media effectively on your site. You’ll still have time to get in there LIVE if you’re quick.
**
Tim Brechbill, a programmer I have another venture with showed me what he’s doing. It’s called “Holiday Sticky” and it’s pretty cool. It’s an unblockable pop-up (a DHTML layer). It takes just minutes and you can instantly create pop-ups or “stickies”.
Choose from over 20 Different Holidays including New Years, Valentine's, St. Patrick's Day, Easter, Passover, Mother's Day, Father's Day, Flag Day, Victoria Day, Memorial Day, President's Day, Cinco de Mayo, Maypole, Independence Day, Labor Day, Halloween, Thanksgiving, Hannakuh, Kwanzaa, Christmas, Birthdays, Weddings, Graduations, and others.
Tim’s giving away a no-charge trial here - http://HolidaySticky.com#FreeTrial
You can get it on his site for $67 but Hot Sheet readers get it for $49 here: http://holidaysticky.com/yanik-special
** Here’s an interesting twist to make your existing websites pay out even more - http://www.contextcash.com/sales.htm (not an affiliate link). Michel Fortin & his new sweetheart, Sylvie Charrier ofWorkaholics4Hire.com (the company we use to outsource customer support) have created a really interesting piece of software. Any page that has content on it can be turned into a revenue stream and by “hiding” links within the keywords. I haven’t tested it yet so I don’t have an opinion one way or another but it’s worth exploring. Let me know what you find.
** I mentioned the book “Irresistible Offer” by Mark Joyner last issue. I thought were some really good points I haven’t seen anywhere else in this book. So it might be worth checking out for you whatever your opinion of Mark. Since the last issue he put together a powerful offer filled with all sorts of “bribes” for you to buy his book. That page is here – http://www.MotherofallBribes.com
This concept of delivering a ton of bonuses to drive book sales offline via Amazon or B&N is a proven tactic. Here’s how 2 of my students did it with their books –
http://brooksgroup.com/h2special_offer.htm (Notice the headline?) ;)
http://www.TogetherCreatingFamilyTraditions.com I really like this one from my e-class student, Rondi Hillstrom Davis because this isn’t the typical “marketing” or “business” related book so we worked hard on developing an unique style to this one. (BTW – this is an excellent holiday gift idea)
**
Cool Business Idea For The New Year...

Truth is, there really are only a few opportunities out there that I would recommend.
