Yanik's Hot Sheet Issue #4

July 7, 2003

Dear Friend,

I meant to get this out earlier but our power in the house went out so I was typing this in the dark until my laptop batteries died. (Ugh!) Now I’m at my cousin’s house finishing it up…

But anyway - I’m back with another issue of “Yanik’s Hot Sheet”…

What's Yanik's Hot Sheet, you ask?

Good question.

You see, I spend tons of money buying new information

(about $20,000.00 last year), checking out new products,

attending seminars, reviewing material people send, reading

a bunch of books and newsletters, etc. etc. So I've decided

to share with you what's new, what's hot and what's going

on inside this periodic newsletter.

You'll find this filled with resources, tips, and stuff I

recommend. You'll only hear from me when I've got some cool

stuff to share (unless you tell me to bug off by clicking

the link at the bottom). :)

--------------------------------------

Hot Sheeter #1: Resell Rights Update

---------------------------------------

Due to various reasons a couple Reprint Rights licenses have come back to us. That means you have one more chance to get started making big money

selling our "high-end" product because you keep 100% of the

profits.

Already one reseller from Ireland, Andrew Fox, is reporting these results:

"From Monday when I started selling your course I have sold 9 copies @ the 3 installment $239 deal. 2 copies @ $697 So $3545 in up front income and another $4302 in re-bills to come...I've worked this out to something like a $18 visitor value!!"
- Andrew Fox, Bangor Cork, Ireland

Amazing!

So if you've been putting off claiming your license to this "businesses-in-a-box," I'd advise you to act quickly before this second chance is history…

Hot Sheeter #2: Independence Day

---------------------------------

Whoa – it’s been a little while since the last issue. As I told you – this isn’t a regularly scheduled newsletter (just an occasional rant or rave). Here’s a quick catch up on what’s new and exciting with Yanik. ;)

Just a couple weeks ago I got back from the “System” seminar in Cleveland. The System keeps getting better and better each time. This was the third version of the seminar and it was unbelievable how high the caliber of attendees and people sharing information was at this one conference. It was great. If you missed it – plan on trying to make one. I can’t tell you when the next one is but if you’re on this list you’ll know about it. I wasn’t really looking forward to going to Cleveland but who would have thought Cleveland was so much fun. I got into a bit of trouble in the “flats” area. :)

Moving on.

Saturday, I played in an all-day, doubles volleyball tournament with my father. He’s 62 but he can still keep up. We ended up in 3rd place and we beat several teams with guys a whole lot younger than him. (He’s got a killer “round-house” serve.) :)

As most of you know, this past weekend was 4th of July for Americans and a chance to celebrate our independence. Trust me, I’m not going to get on a soapbox and start waving the flag – but I do think it’s important no matter what country you live in to really think about that word “independence” and its meaning for you.

My father reminded me that July 3, 1976 was his “Independence day” since that’s the date my family came over to the United States. (Pretty cool since it was right before the bi-centennial celebration.)

For me, my independence day was exactly 4 years and 6 days ago to this date.

July 1, 1999.

That’s the date I left my father’s business to work on my own. It was by far one of the hardest decisions of my life. You see, I had worked for my dad since I was 12 and he thought I was going to take over the company. I had that same thought as well until I got the “bug”.

In fact, my wife, Missy, and I were talking about this recently. She was talking about how when she met me 7 years ago, I had only one thought: “how to grow my father’s business”. I would stay late working on new ads and marketing pieces. I was in early calling my accounts trying to make sales, etc. etc.

Now I had been studying direct marketing, and results were really paying off for my dad’s business. (Actually they still use a lot of the ads I wrote in 1998 because they still work today.) But with every ad I wrote I was getting more and more aggravated. Not because the ads weren’t producing sales – they were – but because of the grief and politics I had to deal with. Everybody seemed to be an advertising expert even though they’ve never studied or read anything on the subject. People mistakenly believe that if they wouldn’t “read all that copy” then nobody will. Or if the ad is “ugly” and has no pictures or pretty graphics it won’t work.

Complete and total crap.

For every ad I wrote I had to fight to get it out there. I got sick of it and decided I would create my own product so I could write ads for myself. My first product was to help dermatologists who wanted new cosmetic patients. It was a big kit (manual, tapes, reports, diskette, etc) based around some marketing consulting I was doing on the side for one of my customers.

I ran my first ad in April 1998 in Dermatologic Surgery magazine. I got 10 responses so I sent them the 20-page sales letter I’d written selling this $700 kit. Not one order.

I waited…

Sent out a 2nd notice to those 10 respondents. Nothing.

Then I sent a 3rd notice telling them the expiration date to get all the free bonuses was only 10 days away. Finally on the very last day of the expiration date I got one order over the fax machine.

Yipeee!!

I still remember that doctor’s name in Flushing, NY. What an incredible feeling. That was the start of my independence. I realized I now had the power to chart my course as I wanted. That first sale. That’s one of the greatest feelings in the world – when something you’ve created is sold. It took me a little over a year after that first order to realize I wanted my freedom and I quit on July 1, 1999.

Maybe it’s the new confidence you get when you realize you’ve created something that people want and are willing to exchange money for. That first sale is usually the hardest (but also the most rewarding).

In fact, 2 weeks ago – the first of my 12 Apprentices launched their product - http://www.WebAdMagic.com - and they were amazed watching all the money pour in from around the globe. Check it out if you want a nice encyclopedia of over 1200 pages of hard-hitting copy you can model for your own online business.

And my wife is striking out on her own with a little bit of my help. She set up her first web site – http://www.InstantThankYouLetters.com and we’re getting ready for the first sales to roll in. (BTW - if you or anyone you know could use some help with thank you letters for professional or personal reasons let them know about the site – but don’t tell Missy I told you about it) :)

So when will your independence day be?

If you’ve already achieved it - I bet you can remember it perfectly. Sometimes the bleakest times that we believe are terrible actually turn into a perfect opportunity.

Take my good friend, Jim Edwards’, for example. His independence day came because he got fired. To him that wasn’t a blessing at first but as he looks back on it – it’s the best thing that ever happened.

I remember the conversation we had right after it happened. I was drinking a bourbon and Jim was having a beer. We were talking about different projects he could try and pursue and do now. We were throwing around some ideas and we came up with “33 Days to Online Profits”. ( http://www.33daystotoonlineprofits.com )

It was right there during that call that we outlined each of the days and moved forward from there. And “33 Days” has been a tremendous six-figure income earner for both of us and it doesn’t seem to let up.

So what can you do to achieve your independence?

I’ll give you a couple things to take to heart. I can’t remember the author who said this but he said if you show me what a man does in his spare time I’ll show you the type of man he’ll become. What are doing with your spare time?

 - Watching TV or reading?

- Napping or practicing your copywriting?

 - Yakking to your friends or studying direct marketing?

It all comes down to the choices we make every single day. In fact, you shouldn’t let one day go by without making sure you are taking at least one proactive step towards your own independence. Just because the thought of you doing what you want when you want may seem so far away – don’t let that stop you from taking those baby steps each and every day. That’s one of my rules and I hope you’ll adopt it.

What else?

Learn to be different. The truth is you need to become extraordinary to achieve extraordinary results. You can’t be like everyone else (and why would you want to). That means doing the things other don’t (or won’t) do. That means not listening to their advice (unless they are doing what you want to do). Frankly, if you simply did the exact opposite of what everyone else is doing you’d turn out okay. Why? If only 5% of people are truly successful and the 95% are the mediocre majority – doesn’t that mean the majority is wrong? Don’t engage in their thinking. Don’t follow their lead. Don’t adhere to the same values and standards the “95-percenters” do.

Please don’t get me wrong – in no way am I trying to be elitist. I’m not. But it is tremendously important to go through your day with your eyes wide open. The truth is most of your friends (right now) probably don’t want you to change and succeed. That would imply that they are losers. That would mean they are failures. Nobody is going to propel you to succeed except yourself.

So get on it and proclaim your own Independence Day starting T-O-D-A-Y!

Hot Sheeter #4: Books, Tools & Resources

You Need to Check Out

-------------------------------------------------

I just finished re-reading “Atlas Shrugged” by Ayn Rand this week. A lot of entrepreneurs and CEOs hail this book as one of the most important works they’ve read and due to the core economic messages this book provides. It’s all about what happens when the world’s producers go on strike. I first heard of this book from Ted Nicholas. I found the second time around it was even better than the first time. I picked up even more of the philosophy distilled. At 1000+ pages it’s not a light summer read – but definitely something you should pick up from Amazon.

* * *

Here’s one of the absolute coolest tools, from my friend Armand Morin, called “Audio Generator” – http://audiomaker.yanikrecommends.com

You just call into an 800# and record an audio message – then immediately after you hang up this service puts the recording online and gives a little piece of code to add to your site. It’s so darn cool. Now you can use the power of audio to enhance your sales message. Another great thing about it, is your visitors don’t need any kind of plug-in or anything complicated like that because the audio is generated in flash (which also makes the code tiny).

There are so many possibilities of what you can do with this new technology. It’s awesome! You can start with an introduction to your visitors so they can hear your voice welcoming them. That’s just what I did on  – www.InstantSalesLetters.com and www.InstantInternetProfits.com

Next, I’m going to use it to let my customers leave testimonials for my products in their own words. It’s all totally automatic since you can have an autoresponder sequence “tickle” your customers at just the right time and send them to your 800# (and your extension #) where they can leave a testimonial message.

And you can also use this new audio technology on thank you pages, inside products, to re-state guarantees, etc. etc. It’s really cool – I give it 2 big thumbs up. Check it out at: http://audiomaker.yanikrecommends.com

Software is a great way to make some nice money (hmm…Microsoft ring a bell?) and my friend, Ben Prater and his co-author Ryan Deiss, have come up with a great twist. You can create a software empire by taking “dead” software and bringing it back to life.

In short, the 'Dead Software System' is all about turning

trash into treasure - and making a ton of money in the

process.

It’s pretty cool – check it out here: http://deadsoft.yanikrecommends.com/

This is nuts. I’ve been meaning to let everyone know about this next resource but haven’t got around to it. This is really something you should check out pronto!

Frank Garon and Lee Benson, two million-dollar home-based marketers are not only sharing their most potent and powerful tactics on Cd-rom and offering 4 hours of marketing advice – but they are doing it for the ridiculously low fee of only $4.95! (Yes, under five bucks).

It really is crazy. See just how far five dollars can take you at:

http://HypnoticBlueprint.com/643

Obviously these guys aren’t going to make any dough selling you their info for $4.95 so this is an offer you’d be almost foolish to resist. The only reason they could do this is because they want you to continue getting CDs from them each month and the only way that will happen is if they blow you away with the first CDrom set. This has got to be one of the best deals of the year!

Also on a different note – please check out this site for a really great cause:

http://www.PCHtape.com

You’ll find a special offer from my friend, Joe Polish with all proceeds going to help the Phoenix Children’s Hospital. It’s a very special interview tape all about Ebay secrets. This tape is not for sale and only available for people donating here.

Hot Sheeter #5: Mark Joyner Retirement

-------------------------------------------------

As a quick update – in the last issue I mentioned I’d be going to LA and getting together with Mark. Unfortunately, my busy schedule (and his) didn’t permit it. But we did have a * very * long chat on our cell phones and I got all my questions answered.

Now I’m sure you’ve heard of the Joyner retirement package from “umpteen” different marketers and newsletters. But in case you have no idea what I’m talking about, the package is of all the computer source code and a bunch of products from Mark’s AESOP company plus 18 CDs of exclusive interviews. Mark had built quite a nice business online and is now moving on to do other things hence his “retirement”.

Now here’s my take on the package.

I believe the ebooks inside the package will be given away as freebie bonuses in no-time flat. So that’s not the biggest value though I really enjoy the confidential Internet manuscript.

The next component is a very nice collection of interviews Mark conducted specifically for this package. Like he says in his sales letter – he does really spill his guts on a lot of topics. He especially comes clean on the ways he built up some huge mailing lists and other very propriety information so this is a nice component. Also, each of the interviews is done with a wide variety of people in all different stages of their Internet business you’re sure to get some big ideas.

Finally, the major component of the package is the source code behind many of Mark’s projects. Now the claim in the sales letter is this is $1M worth of code. Truth is, Mark didn’t pay $1M for this – but if you hired some coders to do all of this for you – that’s probably what you’d be looking at. So that brings me to my other warning. Unless you are pretty technically competent there is nothing you can do with this source code.

Personally, I’m a “techno geek”. There’s no way I could make heads or tails of this stuff. So you will need some technical help with this package to “mold” it into what you want. Now the nice thing is Joyner’s people do give you a whole listing of programmers who are available for freelance assignments. Next point you need to be aware of is that you simply cannot go out to the “Internet marketing” arena and start using the code “as is” to come up with another StartBlaze or ExitBlaze or something like that.

You need to twist and turn the project and come up with your ideas on the functionality of the source code (now the nice thing is source code is the building blocks for software). You will end up losing a whole lot of money unless you come up with a new twist. Perfect example is Mike Chen using the StartBlaze source code to create his new “Fly In Ads”. Same basic concept but a new twist and that’s why it works.

However, let me tell you personally I’d be looking into a niche. I’d be looking to take the code and start creating something for a niche group (i.e. realtors, sales reps, etc. etc.)

#1 you can charge a lot more money for it and #2 they’ve never seen anything like it. Overall, I think it’s a good decision to check out the Joyner package if you heed my advice and go into it with your eyes open. Here’s the link

http://joynerpackage.yanikrecommends.com/

Also you might be interested in hearing an incredibly inspiring success story of a man who used the ideas and tools he found in the Joyner package to get himself out of $75,000 in debt in one week.
